Two NEW Flows Klaviyo Has Just Released: Search and Collection Abandonment & How To Set Them Up
Klaviyo has just released 2 brand new flow automations to help you target potential customers with even more precision, capturing high-intent shoppers who are close to making a purchase but just need that final nudge.
Today we’re breaking down what these flows are, why you need them, and how you can set them up to boost your revenue.
Please note: currently this integration only works with Shopify stores.
What Are Search Abandonment and Collection Abandonment Flows?
1. Search Abandonment Flow
Imagine a customer lands on your website and types in your search bar for “running shoes,” but leaves without buying anything. That search behavior signals a high level of interest.
Klaviyo’s Search Abandonment flow allows you to capture that interest and follow up with highly targeted emails, highlighting products related to their search.
2. Collection Abandonment Flow
This flow targets users who browse specific product collections (like “New Arrivals” or “Winter Sale”) but leave without making a purchase.
It allows you to send a follow-up email featuring popular or related products from that collection, urging them to return and shop.
How to Set Up Klaviyo’s Latest Features: Search Abandonment and Collection Abandonment Flows
Step 1: Update Your Klaviyo Integration
1. Log into Your Klaviyo Account:
- Go to the Klaviyo dashboard and log in
2. Navigate to the Integration Page:
- Click on your account name in the bottom left and select “Integrations” from the dropdown menu.
3. Select Shopify:
- Choose the platform you’re using – this doesn’t work on anything other than Shopify.
- Click on it to see if there are any updates available.
4. Update the Integration:
- If updates are available, click the “Get Started” button below. You will be redirected to Shopify, login and click “Save”

5. Verify Event Tracking:
- To test if this is working go onto your website and use the search function, and also view a collection like your “best sellers” or “new arrivals” which will create the event in Klaviyo.
- Next, go to the “Metrics” tab in Klaviyo to see if events like “Viewed Product,” “Searched,” and “Viewed Collection” are being tracked correctly. Alternatively, you can try building a segment with the criteria as “Viewed Collection” or “Submitted Search”.
- If not, you may need to give this some time to allow Klaviyo to register the update and start collecting the data. Or, go back to your integration with Shopify to check that your integration is up to date.
Step 2: Create a Search Abandonment Flow
- Go to Flows: Click on the “Flows” tab in your Klaviyo dashboard.
- Create Flow: Select “Create Flow” and choose “Abandoned Search Flow.”
- Name Your Flow: Name it something like “Search Abandonment Flow.”
After this, create as many emails as you deem necessary. We’ll be producing a guide of our own at a later date!

Step 3: Create a Collection Abandonment Flow
Follow the same steps as above, but instead of searching for the Search flow, search for “Abandoned Collection”.
